Open day: an insight into the Finsterwalde special school!
On Friday, July 18, 2025, the special school opened its doors to everyone interested with the special educational focus in Finsterwalde. From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., parents, students and guests were able to gain a deep insight into school life. The atmosphere was relaxed and solemn when the students presented various learning locations of the all-day school, including the media and music room, the modern computer room and the school garden.
Especially in recent years it has been shown that the individual promotion of students is becoming increasingly important. This development can not only be observed in Finsterwalde, but reflects a social change that is evident in the entire educational landscape. School policy promotes individualization through the expansion of all -day schools and additional educational offers. According to [Kindergarten Pedagogy] (https://www.kindergartenpaedagogik.de/fachartikel/bildung-augung-beschreuung/ specifically-foerderung-in-der-ganzschule/), at least 50% of the students already use all-day offers, which inaccesses individual support and reduce social inequality.
diverse offers and communal cooperation
The event in Finsterwalde not only offered visitors the opportunity to visit, but also to participate in various activities. In this way, the small and large guests were able to practice fire extinguishers on the outdoor area, prepare snacks in the school kitchen or do sports in the gym. A special highlight was the cake sale that the students of the 10th grade organized.
The deputy mayor Ms. Zajic did not miss the opportunity to get to know the school offer together with the headmistress Ms. Goßlau. A lunch together promoted the exchange and left space for interesting conversations. The school choir and the dance group also ensured a happy mood and entertained the visitors.
Individual funding as a central goal
The special school, which was inaugurated in 1995 and currently taught around 100 pupils in grades 5 to 10, has the goal of supporting each individual individually and optimally preparing for an independent life. The teachers 17 teachers are supported by a committed team of school attendants, a school social worker as well as parents and various cooperation partners.
The opportunities that all day schools offer lie in the close integration of lessons and afternoon offers. But as [Kindergarten Education] (https://www.kindergartenpaedagogik.de/fachartikel/bildung-augung-beschreuung/sard individual-foerderung-in-der-ganzschule/), the individual support has often not yet reached the extent that it should actually be. The heterogeneity of the student body requires differentiated learning opportunities and new forms of teaching. Strong school management and cooperation with various partners are essential to meet the needs of all students in the best possible way.
Overall, the event in Finsterwalde shows that the path to individual support is rocky, but also promising. Those responsible have a good hand and an open ear for the concerns of the students, which creates a solid basis for the future. Until the next opportunity, the impressions and experiences from this day remain alive - and the anticipation for new things.
