Rail replacement service from Monday: RB45 between Chemnitz and Riesa affected!
Travelers on the RB45 line of the Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn (MRB) must expect a special situation from Monday, July 14th. Between July 24th, a replacement rail service will be set up on the section between Waldheim and Riesa. This means that buses will be used instead of trains and the departure times and stops will be adjusted. Further information can be found on the MRB website, but an important note for bicycle fans: Taking bicycles on the replacement buses is only possible to a limited extent, so it's better to plan in advance! Freiepresse reports that there may continue to be delays of up to 20 minutes on the RE3 and RB30 lines in the Chemnitz - Hohenstein-Ernstthal section until July 25th, so travelers can adjust their time accordingly should plan.
But that's not all that passengers currently have to consider. A rail replacement service will also be arranged on the RB110 line, as DB InfraGO is also facing major maintenance work here. This not only affects the section between Riesa and Döbeln, but also the route between Großbothen and Grimma. In Grimma in particular, the tracks will need to be replaced, while the closure period is scheduled to run from mid-August to mid-September. The reason for this is the need to renew the railway bridge in Grimmaer Husarenstrasse, as Sächsische.de reported.
Long-term renovation measures
The current situation is part of a larger restructuring program that Deutsche Bahn is pursuing. As part of the S3 renovation program, an impressive 53 billion euros will be invested by 2027 to improve the rail infrastructure. In addition to classic maintenance, the focus is also on general renovations, especially on bottleneck corridors such as Hamburg-Berlin and Frankfurt-Heidelberg. In total, investments amounting to 8 billion euros are planned for 13 general renovations. [Deutsche Bahn](https://www.deutschebahn.com/de/presse/suche_Medienpakete/Sanierungprogramm-S3-DB- defines-Massnahme-fuer-bessere-Infrastructure-bis-2027-13127506) explains that modernized train stations will be designed in a more customer-friendly and sustainable form by 2027 in order to increase passenger comfort.
These measures are necessary not only to improve the safety and reliability of the transport system, but also to increase the capacity of the infrastructure as a whole. In addition, 100 train stations are to be modernized every year by 2027, including barrier-free equipment and improved customer information. The aim is to create a sustainable railway infrastructure that meets the requirements of the coming years.
