The situation in Neuenhagen
In Neuenhagen (Märkisch-Oderland), however, residents were able to leave their apartments in time when the fire broke out. Although the fire brigade prevented the flames from spreading to neighboring buildings, the property damage is estimated at 150,000 euros and this house also remains uninhabitable for the time being.
In addition to the house fires, there was a fire in a retirement home in Frankfurt (Oder) on the same night. Two people were slightly injured and suspected of suffering from smoke inhalation. They had to be taken to hospital, while the damaged rooms remain uninhabitable for the time being. The estimated material damage amounts to around 200,000 euros. The fire department was alerted by fire alarms and had to evacuate some rooms because burning garbage cans in an underpass of the building were the cause of the accident.
