Extremely high risk of forest fires in Havelland: Brandenburg on alert!

The risk of forest fires in Brandenburg has reached alarming proportions. The Havelland district currently has the highest danger level of 5 FAZ reported. Five other districts, including Barnim, Märkisch-Oderland, Oder-Spree, Potsdam-Mittelmark and Spree-Neiße, are at level 4. The remaining regions of the state are in the medium danger zone.

For today's Saturday, meteorologists expect a dry and very warm day with maximum temperatures between 27 and 31 degrees. However, thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail are already forecast for Sunday, followed by a return to drier weather conditions on Monday.

Significant dangers for forest areas

Brandenburg, which has a forest area of around 1.1 million hectares - which corresponds to around 37 percent of the country's area - has become the region with the highest risk of forest fires in Germany, according to the state forestry agency. This extremely high fire risk is alarming because more than 90 percent of all forest fires are caused by human activity. Up to 99 percent of areas damaged by forest fires are due to human negligence, while lightning is the only natural cause.

Given this situation, appropriate precautionary measures for forest fire prevention are essential. The affected districts and communities recommend that citizens be particularly careful. The potential administrative offenses that can be punished with fines of up to 20,000 euros in accordance with Section 23 of the Forest Act also include violations of forest protection regulations.

Current forest fire situation

Meanwhile, the current forest fire season recorded a total of 125 fire brigade operations in Brandenburg by the end of May, which underlines the urgency of the issue. Right now it is important that all nature lovers, walkers and forest users are aware of the dangers and act responsibly.

The focus is now on protecting the forest areas and taking appropriate measures to get the fires under control. The situation is serious and everyone can do their part to preserve forests and prevent future damage.
