Future debacle for the Uckermark: Prenzlau's candidates in dispute!
There are signs of change in the Uckermark. The youngest Future Atlas 2025 However, it has caused disillusionment: our region is once again at the bottom of the list in a nationwide comparison. The mayoral candidates of Prenzlau, Eve Guske (independent) and Marek Wöller-Beetz (CDU), have now positioned themselves and presented their plans for urban development and shaping the future.
While the non-party Guske responded quickly to the editorial team's inquiries, Wöller-Beetz took more time and the district remained unimpressed by the questions, which took over a week. Guske focuses on concrete approaches to improving quality of life, while Wöller-Beetz plays the notorious skeptic and casts doubt on the study's predictions.
Eve Guske: Into the future with innovation
In the interview, Guske emphasizes strengthening crafts, securing jobs and digital development as the priorities of her policy. She describes Prenzlau as a cultural and economic center with great potential that can be further promoted through investments in education and research. Their ideas also include the creation of a technology campus for water and environmental technology as well as for various tourism focuses.
A “complete service” for companies is intended to provide new impetus. With this, Guske shows that she is ready to take new paths. She is also planning affordable housing and flexible care options for families. That sounds like an exciting vision for the future of Prenzlau!
Marek Wöller-Beetz: Building on what is tried and tested
In contrast, Wöller-Beetz relies on continuity and the further development of existing infrastructure. He believes that the quality of life in the region is already stable and points to the existing daycare places and schools. His strategy is clear: he wants to highlight the region's strengths and provide clear leadership in business, education and administration.
The candidates agree that cooperation and networks are top priority. But while Guske presents a clear innovation course, Wöller-Beetz sees the organization of the administration as a decisive location advantage. The race for mayor will therefore have a lasting impact not only on the city, but also on the entire region.
The situation in a nationwide comparison
The challenges posed by the Future Atlas 2025 were uncovered cannot be overlooked. Structural change, digitalization and demographic changes challenge every region. In this context, the Uckermark in particular has high risks when it comes to future prospects. The study shows that the region has not only made little progress in the labor market situation, but also has seen a decline in employment in several areas.
Nevertheless, there are also positive aspects to report: Brandenburg is benefiting from investments and funding, which gives hope of improving its poor placement in future rankings. The expansion of renewable energies, in which the Uckermark is highlighted as strong, could also provide a positive impulse to make the region more attractive for young people and companies.
Voters in Prenzlau face a crucial election on September 28th that will set the course for the city's development. It remains to be seen which visions will prevail. It remains exciting!
