Kita Together: Neuruppin's Monument of the Month celebrates an award!

On January 23, 2026, a special event will be celebrated in Neuruppin: The Working Group for Cities with Historic City Centers in the State of Brandenburg awards the Kita Miteinander at August-Bebel-Straße 30C as “Monument of the Month”. The ceremonial act begins at 10:00 a.m. and is accompanied by a musical prelude from the children of the daycare center.

Mayor Nico Ruhle will welcome the guests, followed by appealing speeches from the head of the building department, Jan Juraschek, and the head of the Stephanus Foundation's child day care department, Dörte Jahns. The award itself is presented by Nora Görke, chairwoman of the AG Cities with Historic Town Centers. After the ceremony, there will be a tour of the building to highlight the importance and use of the daycare center.

A monument for the future

The motto of the working group for 2026, “Old Town of Tomorrow”, is also reflected in the selection criteria for the award. These include resilience, attractiveness of historic city centers, social commitment and future viability. The focus is on the preservation and renovation of historically valuable buildings and urban spaces. Trust in projects that represent these values remains high. A total of 314 individual monuments in Brandenburg have already been recognized as “Monument of the Month”, with the 315th award taking place in Brandenburg an der Havel, which is preparing for the upcoming 1,100th city anniversary.

As part of this honor, the Beelitz cinema and the “Communication” city wall path in Neuruppin were recognized, among others. The commitment to a lively old town, such as through the KastenKreativ initiative and the Christmas Magic Old Town, was particularly well received. Mayor Michael Müller has also announced a subsidy of 7,000 euros for the cultural program, which will bring a breath of fresh air to the cultural landscape.

Professional exchange on monument preservation

In parallel to the honorable awards in the cities, the annual meeting of the VDL will also gain in importance. This event, a central forum for monument preservation for over a century, brings together experts from monument authorities, universities and civil society organizations. The exchange of knowledge and experiences across federal state borders makes a decisive contribution to the continuous development of monument preservation in Germany.

The conference includes lectures, discussions and social evening events and offers a platform to address current issues and discuss them with volunteers. “Day for Monument Preservation”, the public kick-off, invites everyone interested to take part and provides insights into the important and often underestimated work of monument preservation.

With this in mind, we look forward to the Kita Miteinander's award, which not only honors the past, but also sets the course for a sustainable old town.
