Burglary in Velten: Perpetrators leave 6,000 euros in property damage!
In the tranquil town of Velten, a double whammy occurred in two arcades on October 4th this year, causing both excitement and concern. While the street scene around the arcades on Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße and Märkischen Allee slowly fills up, unknown perpetrators raise the police alarm bells every now and then on different days. That's what she reports Märkische Allgemeine that on October 4th around 5:30 a.m., three masked men broke open several access doors to the arcade. They used brute force to open the slot machines and disappear with an unknown amount of cash. The material damage caused amounts to around 6,000 euros.
It is not surprising that the perpetrators continued their work, unimpressed by the delivery traffic from the neighboring Rewe store. Witnesses reported that they saw the men doing this. Despite a quick search in the area, the police were unable to catch the fleeing perpetrators. The criminal police have now taken over the investigation and are carefully securing all existing traces and video recordings for evaluation.
Another act causes excitement
Just one day earlier, an employee was attacked in the arcade on Märkische Allee. At around 2 a.m., the employee unknowingly opened the door for the three men, who then pushed straight into the arcade. The perpetrators held her and stole her wallet from her handbag. While the alarm system was triggered, the men fled without causing any further damage. The security company immediately alerted the police, but they were no longer able to find the perpetrators in the area. Fortunately, the employee remained uninjured. The Berlin police is now looking for witnesses who may be able to provide information about suspicious people or vehicle movements on that fateful night.
Increasing burglary numbers in focus
The two incidents highlight the increasing number of burglaries in Germany. According to a recent Burglary statistics Residential burglaries increased by around 18 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year. With an average of 213 burglaries per day, 77,819 cases ended up on the police books. This also includes the recent incidents in Velten, which are endangering a comfortable life, especially in the run-up to Christmas.
Mechanical security measures remain key to preventing break-ins. While occasional and spontaneous perpetrators play a major role, effective prevention work rests on the shoulders of the population. The police offer free security consultations to give tips and tricks for better protection against burglary. At a time when security is becoming more and more important, it is important to have a good knack for protective measures.
The people of Velten will certainly not be able to brush off these incidents lightly. It remains to be hoped that the police will soon be able to identify the perpetrators and that citizens' sense of security will be restored.
