Construction work in Velten: Bahnstraße remains closed until September!
The city of Velten is currently faced with the setback that the reopening of the Bahnstrasse, originally planned for the end of June 2025, is now being postponed to early September 2025. This delay is due to delivery difficulties in building materials and additional work, such as the expansion of fiber optic and the development of a new building plot at Bahnstraße 4. The renovation work in the section between Viktoria and Poststrasse has been ongoing since autumn 2024 and are necessary to modernize the city's infrastructure. In the meantime, the railway road remains fully blocked.
The current state of construction shows a positive development: the sidewalk on the eastern side as well as access, parking bags and curbs have already been completed. With an investment of around 1.2 million euros, of which 514,000 euros are funded by the state of Brandenburg, the road will be redesigned with a six-meter-wide asphalt lane over a length of 196 meters. It is also planned to set up two meters wide, barrier -free sidewalks on both sides and to create 17 parking bays for parked vehicles. Modern LED road lighting and granite plasters for the property access are also implemented. In addition to the structural improvement, 24 new maple trees are planted as part of the measures.
fiber optic expansion brings more speed for Veltens households
Another important step towards more modern infrastructure is the planned fiber optic expansion in Velten, which will take place from 2025 by fiber optic plus, a joint venture between Deutsche Telekom and IFM Investors. Thanks to this initiative, around 6,743 households in the city center will have the opportunity to go online at speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second. Glass fiber plus plans to use the existing infrastructures of Telekom to make the expansion faster and less stressful.
interested citizens can already be resolved, whereby a free house connection is offered during the expansion phase, provided that a fiber optic tariff is booked. After completing the expansion phase, costs are usually incurred, which, for example, amount to EUR 799.95 at Telekom. It remains to be seen how the measures for the nationwide supply of gigabit connections are implemented in the entire region until 2028 to increase the attractiveness of rural areas.
digitization as the key to rural development
The importance of fiber optic removal should not be underestimated. As the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture clarifies, a nationwide supply of gigabit networks based on fiber optic base is the goal of the two state strategies for broadband expansion by 2030. The expansion plays a crucial role in the future viability of rural regions because it creates the technical basis for modern business models and an increase in the quality of life of the residents.
However, efforts are also faced with challenges, especially in rural areas, where high investment costs and longer expansion times can lead to delays. Therefore, close cooperation between municipalities, counties and telecommunications companies is necessary to support the expansion and to promote digitization.
But despite all the challenges - a lot is happening in Velten! Whether in road construction or fiber optic expansion, the course for a modern and well -networked city is set. Let's be excited to see what the coming months will bring and how the citizens can benefit from these measures.
