S-Bahn construction sites in summer: Passengers have to expect major restrictions!

The summer vacation in Berlin and Brandenburg have started and thus also an intensive DB Infrago construction program for the S-Bahn. From July 21 to August 4, 2025, work on the electronic signal box Schöneweide in the area of Baumschulenweg/Treptower Park will start, which are carried out primarily in the less burden weeks of the holidays. Although a variety of construction sites on the S-Bahn lines will ensure inconvenience, the optimal use of the holiday season is to be used for the extensive construction work for the Spreeradio.

The focus is on several areas, especially in the north, east and southeast of Berlin. During the construction period, there are numerous restrictions in S-Bahn traffic. In the course of the work, for example, the bridge over the Spree is exchanged to improve the infrastructure of the S-Bahn in the long term.

planned degrees and recommendations

The construction site of the renewal of the railway bridge over Garzauer Straße in Strausberg ends on July 24, so that the S5 runs again every 20 minutes between Strausberg and Strausberg Nord. However, passengers should not adapt to immediate normalization of traffic. By the end of the construction site activities on September 7, there will continue to be considerable restrictions. The lines S41, S42, S8, S85 are particularly affected, which cannot operate continuously by September 8th.

To keep an overview, it is advisable to use the electronic timetable information before starting travel.
