Future for Hennigsdorf-Nord: 22 million euros for large projects!
Big changes are coming in Hennigsdorf-Nord. The district, which is the largest section of Hennigsdorf with around 4,750 inhabitants, has increasingly established itself as a social hotspot in recent years and now requires extensive investment. Comprehensive neighborhood development is intended to improve the situation and make the district attractive. According to maz-online.de, a corresponding concept was already developed in March 2021 decided by the city council, which provides for numerous measures.
An essential component of this development is the fundamental renovation of Choisy-le-Roi Street, which is estimated to cost around 1.7 million euros. Construction work is scheduled to begin in spring 2026. Funding from the “Growth and Sustainable Renewal” program is available for implementation, but this is subject to availability.
Diverse projects in planning
In order to increase the quality of life in Hennigsdorf-Nord, comprehensive projects are planned that focus on the residential courtyards. For example, residential courtyard 4 of the Hennigsdorf housing cooperative (WG) between Rigaer Straße and Alsdorfer Straße is being redesigned. These measures will cost around 375,000 euros, 50% of which will come from the city budget. For Wohnhof 2 of the Hennigsdorfer Wohnungsbaugesellschaft (HWB), there is even support from the KFW program “Natural Climate Protection in Municipalities” amounting to around 253,000 euros. The design and renovation of residential courtyard 2 will start in autumn 2023, while the renovation of the inner courtyard between Rigaer and Alsdorfer Straße began in April 2023 [wohnen-in-hennigsdorf.de].
Another plan envisages the creation of a neighborhood path that will serve as a safe circular route through Hennigsdorf-Nord. Changes to bus routes 808 and 807 also play a role in redesigning the entrance area to Rigaer Straße. The bus stop on Alsdorfer Straße will be barrier-free in the future and will have a new passenger shelter - a measure that is planned for 2026.
Long-term investments
A look into the future shows that around 22.1 million euros are expected to flow into the district by 2035, primarily through funding. The availability of these funds largely determines the implementation of further projects and their schedules. The old town pool in particular is a topic that concerns many Hennigsdorf residents. The building has been vacant since summer 2023, and demolition is targeted for 2026, depending on the availability of funds for the demolition work.
The urban development concept for the reuse of the city pool area and adjacent areas is currently being developed. A neighborhood management company has also moved into premises in the “Nordpol” on Hradeker Straße to serve as a contact point for residents. The urban development funding program “Social Cohesion” supports such initiatives and aims to stabilize and upgrade disadvantaged districts through investments in public infrastructure and living space.
Overall, it shows that Hennigsdorf-Nord is on a promising path to finding its way back to its old strength. It is in the interest of both the city administration and the residents to successfully implement the planned measures and sustainably improve the quality of life in this district.
