Round table for Potsdam's youth: This is what the 2nd regional dialogue will be like!
Things are about to get exciting in Potsdam for everyone who is committed to the interests of children, young people and families. On November 12, 2025, the 2nd regional youth welfare dialogue will take place at the Leisure Meeting Point. The representative for education, culture, youth and sport, Torsten Wiegel, will be on site at the event and welcome the local youth welfare actors from the northern districts, Potsdam North, Potsdam West social area as well as the city center and the northern suburbs.
The dialogue, which will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., builds on the first regional dialogue that took place in June 2023. At that time, 92 participants were present and nine relevant topics were discussed. The positive feedback from participants shows that there is a real need for exchange and collaboration. In addition to the need for better places and spaces for young people, issues such as school refusal and violence prevention are also of central importance, as Potsdam.de reports.
Strengthening the community
The regional dialogue offers a platform for exchanging information about the needs of children and families in Potsdam, which should allow strengths and challenges to be better identified. The discussion groups are designed in such a way that the focus is on listening and creating together. The participants' suggestions and wishes were collected in advance and are incorporated into the discussions.
In addition to conversations about child welfare, it is important to consider support systems for families. Parents often face challenges when it comes to raising and supporting their children. Offers for family education and counseling, which are legally regulated in SGB VIII, offer helpful support here, as BMBF explains.
Diverse offers for families
In Potsdam and other parts of Germany there are a variety of support offers for parents and children. These range from courses and information evenings to parent cafés and open consultation hours. The aim of family education is to strengthen the parenting skills of parents in order to ensure better educational support for the little ones.
There are also digital offerings, such as the “STARK” platform, which provides helpful information and tools for dealing with relationship crises, separation or divorce. The importance of such resources also increased their use by fathers and socially disadvantaged families, which represents a positive trend in society.
The upcoming regional dialogue is not only an excellent opportunity for an open exchange, but also an opportunity to create new networks and improve existing offerings. In view of the already positive reviews from the first dialogue, the future for youth welfare in Potsdam looks promising. So be there and bring in your ideas and concerns!
