Potsdam calls for: Vaccination Day for everyone! Protection against HPV & more!

On July 15, 2025, a vaccination campaign day took place at the Potsdam Health Department, which was met with widespread interest. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., all residents, especially young people and their parents, were able to receive valuable information and various vaccinations. The event was intended to encourage citizens to be proactive about their vaccination status, especially given the alarming vaccination rates in Brandenburg. Anyone interested was warmly invited to come to the vaccination site at Berliner Straße 150a, and best of all: many of the vaccination doses offered could even be received without making an appointment in advance.

As Potsdam.de reports, particular attention was paid to the HPV vaccination as it protects against various types of cancer. Support from gynecologists' practices in Potsdam and the surrounding area provided additional advice and information. Anyone who brought their vaccination book or health insurance card with them could have their vaccinations checked and, if necessary, updated. Even people without health insurance were warmly welcomed.

Vaccination status and challenges

The restrictions during the corona pandemic have contributed to fewer doctor contacts and preventive examinations. The loss of trust in vaccinations, coupled with inadequate communication, has made many people hesitant to get vaccinated. In addition, the increase in refugees in Germany with often patchy vaccination status is a challenge for the health system and highlights the urgency of vaccination campaigns.

The need for vaccinations

A tragic case of a tenth boy from Havelland who died of diphtheria shows how important vaccinations are. In Germany, the number of diphtheria infections rose to 126 between 2022 and 2025. It is imperative that parents and guardians take responsibility for their children's health seriously.

The health department in Potsdam continues to offer low-threshold vaccination offers in order to provide the population with the best possible support. “We would like to encourage everyone to find out about vaccinations and understand their important role in health care,” said Böhm. The vaccination campaign day was a step in the right direction, but all efforts are needed to finally achieve the desired vaccination rates. In addition, the healthcare system urgently needs to be converted to digital solutions in order to abolish the old paper vaccination certificate as outdated.

The upcoming vaccination offers could be the key to restoring trust in vaccinations and motivating the population to actively take care of their health.
