Budget dispute in the district: new Rewe building and school decisions are pending!

Things are boiling in Brandenburg: The Dahme-Spreewald district council is facing major challenges, especially when deliberating the 2026/27 double budget. While the discussions are intense and controversial between the parliamentary groups, the district is heading for a deficit of around 80 million euros by the end of 2027. The debates between the AfD/FWKW and the SPD are particularly heated, like this MAZ reported. The decision on the budget should be made at the March meeting of the district council.

The district's financial difficulties should not be underestimated. There is already a deficit of around 43 million euros this year. In order to remain solvent, the district has no choice but to take out loans and fall back on reserves. The Radiocottbus also reports that a reduction in the allowance for MPs from 290 euros to 260 euros was rejected. The MPs are neither reducing their own demands nor are they sending a sign of responsibility.

Building plans and school decisions

Another important topic is the developments surrounding the Rewe market in Wildau. Plans for a modern new building are underway, even if planning law is still missing. The city of Wildau is in favor of the new building, which is expected to be started in 2029, with an opening in 2030.
Rewe, an integral part of the local supply in Wildau since 2008, serves around 14,000 customers every week. This shows how important the market is for the local community.

At the same time, parents and children in the 6th grade in Wildau have to decide which secondary school they would like to attend. With its school check, the MAZ offers extensive information for this important process. Registrations are due in February 2026 and acceptance letters will then be sent out in June.

Criticism of noise protection and coaching

There is also an interesting development in Zossen: Kathleen Janitschke offers coaching for people going through life transitions. Her approach to overcoming fears and mastering personal challenges provides valuable support for many. With her personal experience and several coaching training courses, she has a good knack for supporting others in difficult times.

Overall, there is a tense situation in Dahme-Spreewald. With far-reaching financial challenges, important construction projects and the needs of the student body, those responsible are faced with major tasks. It remains to be hoped that the district council will find a way to reconcile the different interests.
