In the Dahme-Spreewald district, the Corona situation currently remains stable and relaxed. The official statistics from June 17, 2025 do not report a single new positive test result for the region compared to the previous day. This means that the 7-day incidence remains only 1.1 per 100,000 inhabitants. The total number of people who have tested positive in the district so far is 82,022 [news.de].
A nationwide view shows a similarly positive picture. Brandenburg recorded a total of 4 new infections, raising the 7-day incidence to 0.9 per 100,000 inhabitants. To date, 1,147,771 cases have been documented in Brandenburg. The 35 to 59 age group has been hit hardest so far, with 478,862 infections registered across the entire pandemic. On a nationwide scale, new infections are also low: 124 new cases were registered in Germany and the 7-day incidence is 0.8.
Intensive care beds and Corona variant Nimbus
The situation in the hospitals continues to improve, as in the Dahme-Spreewald district, 21 of the 35 available intensive care beds are currently occupied, although there are no COVID patients in the intensive care units. 14 beds are therefore available. The occupancy rate regionally is around 60%. This is an encouraging trend in the context of the intensive work in healthcare carried out by clinical staff.
However, on the horizon is the new Corona variant Nimbus (NB.1.8.1), which was discovered in January 2025 and is currently classified as a “variant under observation” by the WHO. Current reports indicate that there is no evidence of more severe disease progression, which allows the situation to breathe a sigh of relief.
Vaccinations and their effectiveness
The vaccination campaign plays a central role in the fight against the pandemic. So far, 4,753,667 vaccinations have been administered in Brandenburg, and the rate of people vaccinated at least once is an impressive 68%. According to information from corona-in-zahlen.de, around 68.1% of the population has basic immunization, while around 55.9% have received a booster vaccination. The challenges and successes of the vaccination campaign are crucial for developments in the near future.
The Dahme-Spreewald district has an infection rate of 46.65%, and the mortality rate, i.e. the proportion of deaths among those infected, is 0.58%. These figures make it clear that, despite a stable situation, vigilance is still required.
The medical infrastructure
The healthcare system has adapted to constantly changing circumstances since the beginning of the pandemic. The utilization of intensive care beds has been stable in the past few weeks, but there is also current data nationwide. According to Statista, intensive care beds in Germany have experienced a noticeable increase in occupancy since March 2020, although the situation is currently less tense in many regions.
Overall, the Corona situation in the Dahme-Spreewald district is consistently positive, but while the numbers look encouraging, it is important to continue to remain cautious and prudent. The development of the variants and the vaccination rate will be crucial for further developments in the coming weeks.
