Important closure in Königs Wusterhausen: Luckenwalder Straße closed!

From August 18, 2025, Luckenwalder Straße in Königs Wusterhausen will be completely closed for almost three weeks until September 5, 2025. The reason for this measure is the replacement of the district heating pipe, carried out by the Königs Wusterhausen heat supply company (WKW). This construction work is necessary to ensure future security of supply for residents and is being carried out using an open construction method. Residents and road users will be faced with a number of challenges in the coming weeks.

For drivers, this means that they will be redirected via the B179, Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, Goethestraße and Cottbuser Straße. Positive side effect: Bettina-von-Arnim-Straße and Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße remain accessible in both directions, so at least some traffic routes must be retained. As part of the diversions, the buses of the Regional Transport Company Dahme-Spreewald (RVS) will also be affected and will have to be rerouted via Goethestrasse, Erich-Weinert-Strasse and Gerhart-Hauptmann-Strasse. A replacement stop will be set up on Erich-Weinert-Straße, directly in front of the Otto Lilienthal Comprehensive School.

Consequences beyond the first construction phase

But the full closure is only the first part of a more extensive project. After this first phase has been completed, the next construction phase will take place from September 8th to September 30th, 2025. During this period, Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße between Luckenwalder Straße and Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße will also be closed. The need to replace the district heating pipes underlines the central role of a well-functioning heat supply for the population.

Especially against the background of the current discussions about the acceptance of district heating, as presented in a report by the Federal Environment Agency, such infrastructure projects are becoming increasingly important. The UBA states that it is important to include not only technical, but also social and economic aspects in planning. Measures such as increased price transparency and low-threshold information offerings could significantly increase the general acceptance of district heating among citizens.

A look ahead

At a time when the challenges of heat supply are becoming increasingly complex, it is to be hoped that this construction work will both stabilize the supply structure and strengthen trust in the providers. The measures are intended to help make heat supply more efficient and resilient in the coming years. Well-planned and transparently communicated implementation is essential. The people in Königs Wusterhausen should therefore prepare for some changes, which could ultimately benefit the general public.
