Motocross season finale: Barnim Cup brings strong young talents into the race

On Saturday, the eagerly awaited Barnim Cup in motocross took place on the “Bernauer Loop” race track near Werneuchen. This event marked the end of the season for young, amateur and professional drivers from all over Brandenburg. In brilliant weather, spectators crowded the track to witness the spectacular races. Organizer Dirk Stannek, who has been addicted to motocross for 43 years, was extremely satisfied with the number of participants and visitors. “It’s always nice to see how this sport brings people together,” said Stannek.

The race track itself offers a challenging arena with different terrain variations. “For me, motocross is balance and relaxation at the same time, even if it is often stressful,” explained Stannek, emphasizing the importance of community and team spirit in this sport.

Young talent on the rise

Not only the experienced drivers could take part in the Barnim Cup; The young talents also showed off their skills. Particularly noteworthy is ten-year-old Matilda Jani from Wandlitz, who has been riding a motorcycle since she was five years old. She took 6th place at the Berlin-Brandenburg state championship and is striving for higher things: “My goal is to do well at the world championship,” she reveals, adding that regular training and participation in competitions are essential for this. Matilda's family supports her in all matters, everyone has their role - from her father, who manages the technology of the motorcycle, to her mother, who takes care of the organization.

But the path to success in motocross is not without risks. Participants report that the sport requires a high level of physical fitness, discipline, technique and especially courage. Eleven-year-old Niklas from Beerfelde has experienced these challenges first hand as he has already suffered a broken wrist. Nevertheless, his enthusiasm remains unbroken: “It’s just fun!”

A strong association and successful support programs

The Barnim Cup is hosted by Bernauer Loop Association organized, which has been active since 1958 and maintains a family atmosphere. In recent years, the association has experienced an increase in young members who are interested in targeted support. Training and events are also offered regularly to make it easier for those interested to access motocross. The route is DMSB-licensed and offers an annual run for the state championship, the next date is July 5, 2025.

Additionally there is with the Motorsport Team Germany a relevant funding program that supports talented young athletes between the ages of 12 and 22. Prominent ambassadors such as Pascal Wehrlein and Simon Längenfelder support the upcoming talents and offer financial help and comprehensive training. The program, which has been operating successfully for over 25 years, ensures that not only technical training is promoted, but also important training in the areas of fitness and media literacy takes place.

Overall, the Barnim Cup shows that interest in motocross continues to grow and that young riders in particular are on the right path to becoming successful in international sport. The challenge of motocross offers not only thrills, but also a strong community that embraces and unites all generations.
