New bridge over the Finow Canal: a gain for Finowfurt!

On July 10, 2025, the ceremonial inauguration of a new pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the finow channel took place in Finowfurt. The bridge was officially opened in a festive silhouette, at which numerous representatives of the Schorfheide municipality, the district of Barnim, the Finowfurt local advisory board, the water and shipping office and the construction companies involved were present. Mayor Wilhelm Westerkamp reminded of the emergency demolition of the old bridge during his speech, which was necessary on July 9, 2021.

The fast replacement building was started immediately after the demolition. However, the planning had to be revised several times due to increased security requirements. Ultimately, the total costs for the new bridge amounted to 927,000 euros, which are made up of various financing pools: 307,000 euros are provided by the municipality of Schorfheide, 390,000 euros come from the district development budget and 230,000 euros are subsidies from the bike path program of the Barnim district. District Administrator Daniel Kurth underlined the importance of the financial participation of the district at the inauguration.

Details about the bridge

The new bridge has a width of 2.50 meters and is only accessible to pedestrians, cyclists and electromobiles. It connects the residential and commercial area with the castle goods settlement. The construction started on April 24, 2025 and was completed on June 30, 2025. The assembly of the seven bridge parts took place from May 20 to May 22, 2025.

The Busmann company from Schüttorf, Lower Saxony, was responsible for the production of the bridge elements. The half-timbered steel structure above the channel consists of three parts, while the foreland bridges are made from two parts. In order to ensure the pleasant appearance of the bridge, planking and railing made of high-quality bongossi wood are manufactured. Local companies were also involved in the construction work, such as the company BRB from Eberswalde, which took care of crane set -up areas and impact protection, as well as the Kühne office from Finowfurt for the measurement and the Prietz company for the preparatory work.

Current developments

before the official approval, there were delays of about four weeks on the castle goods side. Therefore, the bridge was closed until the official opening and entering was prohibited. However, the Treidelweg on the commercial park side could be released again from May 26th. The bridge not only has a function, but will also significantly improve the quality of life for the residents and the accessibility of commercial areas in the region.
