Brandenburg's Lake District: Three districts unite for new tourism!

An exciting initiative for tourism in the Brandenburg region is now becoming a reality: On July 22, 2025, the founding of the Brandenburgische Seenplatte GmbH for tourism management and marketing was celebrated. The partnership agreement was ceremoniously signed in the meeting room of the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district in Neuruppin and marks the start of a collaboration that has come to fruition. The participating districts of Barnim, Oberhavel and Ostprignitz-Ruppin decided to establish it in their district councils in May and June of this year in order to pool their strengths and establish a common tourism brand. The future company will be launched on January 1, 2026.

The founding not only brings with it new opportunities, but also a change of name. The previous tourism association Ruppiner Seenland e.V. will be merged into the “Tourismusverband Brandenburgische Seenplatte e.V.” renamed. The shareholders of the new GmbH are the three districts and the newly named association. Those responsible are sending a positive signal: They are convinced of the synergies that will be used here, for example through a joint website and improved organization of hiking, water, cycling and cultural tourism.

Joint brand management

In order to further expand the brand identity, the previous brands “Ruppiner Seenland” and “Barnimer Land” will be available until the end of 2025. The new “Seenplatte” brand will then be actively promoted. The collaboration focuses on four product worlds: water experience, cycling experience, hiking experience and city and cultural experience. Cross-sectional topics such as accessibility, sustainability and family suitability are also firmly planned. The new acting managing director of the GmbH, Egmont Hamelow, will lead the new organization together with Daniel Kurth as chairman and Alexander Tönnies as deputy.

The region in focus

But what makes the Brandenburg Lake District so special? In addition to the joint commitment to tourism development, the region boasts impressive environmental values that are among the best in Germany. The picturesque landscape is graced by three nature parks: the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park, the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park and the Barnim Nature Park. Dense forests invite you to hike, while well-developed cycle paths take cyclists to fairytale castles and magnificent mansions.

Small villages not only offer regional delicacies, but also the hospitality of the local people. The region also has museums, galleries, animal and leisure parks. Events such as concerts and festivals on the water set the tone for relaxation, cultural enjoyment and sociable family time. So nothing stands in the way of strong tourism development in the Brandenburg Lake District.

The district decision-makers are optimistic that the new organization will make even better use of the region's tourism potential. The goal is clear: use synergies, strengthen the region together and establish the Brandenburg Lake District as an attractive travel destination. A bold step into a promising future!
