Traffic chaos in Bernau: restrictions due to canal repairs!
From Monday, August 11, 2025, citizens in Bernau will have to prepare for some restrictions on regular services. The reason for this is repair work on a manhole cover in the intersection of Weißenseer Straße and Breitscheidstraße. These were originally intended to last only a short time, but entail some far-reaching measures. Loud Barnim Current The disruption is planned from Tuesday to Friday, August 15, 2025.
The measures include reducing lanes and reducing the maximum speed in the affected area. Passengers should expect possible delays on bus routes 892, 895 and 898. Line 898 in particular is being rerouted and cannot turn from Weißenseer Straße into Breitscheidstraße. This means that the “Breitscheidstraße” stop in the direction of the Bernau S-Bahn station unfortunately cannot be served. Passengers should use the surrounding stops, especially the Paulus-Praetorius-Gymnasium or the Bernau S-Bahn station, to get into the city.
Further traffic restrictions in Bernau
From August 4th to November 7th, 2025, Veilchenstrasse will also be partially closed at the level of the current 2nd construction phase between Margueritenstrasse and Tulpenstrasse in order to renew the drinking water pipes. The street “Im Blumenhag” must also be closed from July 22nd to October 31st, 2025 between Kornblumenstraße and Tulpenstraße due to road construction. Not to be forgotten is Mühlenstrasse, which will be partially affected from July 23rd to September 5th, 2025 due to facade work on the Johanna School.
A look at the S-Bahn lines shows that the S2 is also affected in the period from August 22nd to September 8th, 2025. The S-Bahn service between Pankow-Heinersdorf and Karow will be discontinued and a replacement rail service will be set up, as construction work is pending on the electronic signal box on the S8 line. At the same time, several road surface renovations and drinking water pipeline work are planned in the city area from June to December 2025, which will pose additional challenges for road users.
