Sunny Friday in Bernau: New opening hours and exciting events!

January 16, 2026 has some exciting news in Bernau. The population can expect a gray start to the day, but the morning also brings a little sun. The temperatures climb to a pleasant 5 degrees, as Bernau LIVE reports.

With the start of the new year, the opening hours of the recycling centers in Bernau and Barnim have changed. This measure is intended to optimize the service for citizens and enables more convenient access to waste disposal services.

Traffic information and safety

The traffic situation is dense, especially on Heinersdorfer Straße, Jahnstraße and at the roundabout on Oranienburger Chaussee/Mühlenstraße. A look at the S-Bahn connection shows that the S1, S25 and S85 lines will no longer stop at Wollankstrasse station until August 2028 because work is underway to build a new bridge there. For lines S41 and S42, the stop at Wedding train station will be suspended due to vandalism, which will result in a replacement bus service every 10 minutes.

Caution is particularly advised in the morning hours: residual snow and frozen ground can cause slippery conditions. In addition, the renovation of Kleiststrasse will continue until April 5th, with full closures in the Venusbogen until January 30th, 2026.

Cultural highlights and events

Today and tomorrow there will be a lot to discover in Bernau and the surrounding area. The campus day takes place in the BarnimWissensZentrum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Panketal High School invites you to an open day today from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. And the popcorn cinema in the Biesenthal cultural station is also open today from 7 p.m.

Another highlight is coming up on Saturday: the wolf breakfast in the Schorfheide wildlife park. Adults pay 45 euros, children 30 euros, and can enjoy the special morning in the park.

The “Grand Opening” event of McDonald’s on January 17, 2026 should also not be missed, while on the same day HSV Bernauer Bären and LOK Bernau will play their home games in the Erich-Wünsch-Halle. Sports fans are cordially invited to cheer on their teams!

Green Week in Berlin

Another exciting event is Green Week, which opens today in Berlin and lasts until January 26, 2025. This leading international trade fair for food, agriculture and horticulture attracts millions of visitors every year. AFZ reports that Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir will open the trade fair on Thursday evening. However, the mood in the agricultural sector remains tense, especially after the suspicion of foot and mouth disease in the Barnim district, which fortunately has not been confirmed.

It is particularly worth mentioning that due to suspicion of foot and mouth disease, no real even-toed ungulates are allowed to be exhibited at the fair. Instead, there are plastic cows there to illustrate the farming conditions. Protests against factory farming and demands for better animal, climate and environmental protection measures accompany the event.

For anyone who would like to know more about the weather in Berlin and Brandenburg, the German Weather Service DWD offers comprehensive information on climate diagrams and current weather data.

The anticipation for an exciting weekend is great! Whether it's a culinary journey of discovery at the Green Week or sporting events in Bernau, there's something for everyone here.
