Christmas market in Spremberg: weekly market moved to small market!
Something is happening in Spremberg! The weekly market, which normally takes place regularly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, will be moved to the small market next to the town hall due to the construction work for this year's Christmas market. The move affects the dates on Tuesday, December 9th and Thursday, December 11th, 2025. Market hours will remain unchanged from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., so that customers can continue to enjoy the usual offering. Niederlausitz Current reports that the reason for this change is the upcoming festivities and activities surrounding the Christmas market.
The Christmas market itself takes place this year from December 11th to 14th and transforms the market square and the Kreuzkirche into a festive center. During the four days, a colorful mix of music, stage programs and festive attractions await visitors. The official opening will be carried out by Mayor Christine Herntier or a representative, who will also cut the traditional stollen.
A diverse program
Visitors can look forward to various highlights, including a lively Advent calendar, historic fire engines and Christmas films in the cinema. On Saturday evening there will be a group singing of Christmas carols, while regionally well-known artists, including the youth band and singer Ronny Weiland, will provide musical accompaniment. On Sunday from 2 p.m. the Spremberger Kulturschloss will shine in all its splendor with classical music. LR Online emphasizes that the shops are also open on the third Advent and there is a shopping weekend.
Of course, there are also practical things to consider: The marketplace will be blocked from December 8th. Diversions from Dresdener Straße to Wirthstraße are signposted. Safety is a top priority - special containers and mobile barriers ensure a carefree visit, while an emergency medical service must have access to the Christmas market at all times. Barrier-free toilets are available in the community center and on the grounds.
