Sunny temperatures and danger of forest fires: Brandenburg on alert!

Summer has finally really arrived! At the weekend, people in Berlin and Brandenburg can look forward to consistently warm and sunny weather. Again RBB reported, the thermometer will climb between 23 degrees in the Uckermark and up to 27 degrees in the south of Brandenburg on Friday. In Berlin we expect it to be around 25 degrees – perfect for a relaxing summer day outdoors.

But what is a completely positive situation from a solar perspective also has its downsides. The German Weather Service (DWD) is sounding the alarm: the risk of forest fires is increasing rapidly in several districts in Brandenburg. Five districts - Havelland, Potsdam-Mittelmark, Märkisch-Oderland, Oder-Spree and Spree-Neiße - are already in level 4, which means high risk! In many other regions the risk of forest fires is lower, but still worrying, with a level of 3 or even a safe level of 2 in the Uckermark.

The weather situation in detail

ARD weather expert Andreas Arndt describes this weather situation as a so-called “omega weather situation”. This will bring warm to hot air from southwest Europe and Africa, making the weekend a true summer festival. However, the fun is only short-lived, because on Saturday night the temperatures drop to 6 degrees and there is no rain magic.

Saturday will be a sunny Sunday with highs between 26 and 31 degrees Celsius, which, despite all the joy, also further increases the risk of forest fires. Brandenburg is considered the federal state in Germany with the highest risk of forest fires, due to rich pine forests, low rainfall and sandy soils.

A look at the dangers of forest fires

The numbers speak for themselves: by the end of May 2025, there had already been 125 forest fires in Brandenburg. A look at the current forest fire danger levels shows that the region is not only a leader when it comes to temperatures. According to that Weather hazards Brandenburg is the stronghold of this fire danger, while many other federal states get off relatively lightly.

  • Brandenburg – Stufe 4 (hohe Gefahr) in den Landkreisen: Havelland, Potsdam-Mittelmark, Märkisch-Oderland, Oder-Spree, Spree-Neiße.
  • Mittlere Gefahr (Stufe 3) in vielen Regionen.
  • Uckermark – Stufe 2, was als niedrige Gefahr gilt.

With all of this, Sunday could be a bit changeable: moving clouds bring a change in the weather with local thunderstorms and heavy showers in the afternoon, with temperatures still between 28 and 32 degrees.

Enjoy the summer, stay careful and take good care of yourself and nature - especially in forested areas!
