Shortage of teachers: Hot discussion about solutions at the Antenne Stammtisch!

There are currently serious challenges in the education sector in Brandenburg. Teaching positions are regularly being eliminated, and the lack of qualified teachers is particularly evident in the increase in career changers at schools. How Antenna Brandenburg Reportedly, teachers will also have to do an additional lesson in the future, which will make the situation even more tense.

Despite a new state budget that provides more resources for education, the loss of 345 full-time positions represents a major challenge. The topic will also be taken up at the upcoming Antenne Stammtisch on July 1st at the Spree-Neiße comprehensive school in Kolkwitz. A panel discussion will take place at 6 p.m. in which, among others, Hendrik Fischer, State Secretary in the Ministry of Education, as well as representatives from student councils and parents' associations will have their say.

New paths in teaching

Politicians are trying to counteract the shortage of teachers with new approaches. Christine Streichert-Clivot, President of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, has announced the introduction of a dual teacher training course. This model is intended to offer students not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical experience and thus achieve a better connection to the region. This concept also opens up the opportunity for people with only one subject to become a teacher, which previously only applied to art and music. As well as ZDF today notes, this could help increase diversity in the teaching profession.

Given the increasing number of students and social changes, such as the expansion of all-day schools and inclusion, there is great potential for further bottlenecks in the shortage of teachers. According to a Forsa survey, 71% of school principals feel unable to support the health of their teachers, highlighting the urgency of the discussion.

Strengthen teacher diversity

In order to reduce teacher turnover and attract well-trained teachers, there is a trend towards career changers. How Mirror Online writes, these have become more important in recent years. This is used as an opportunity, but also brings with it doubts about the deprofessionalization of the teaching profession. Experts call for continuous monitoring of the teacher supply in order to identify and correct future deficiencies in a timely manner.

The combination skills required by politicians could bring hope, but it remains to be seen how effective these new models will be in practice. The Antenne regulars' table on July 1st will certainly offer exciting insights into the current challenges and solutions.

The event is free, and those who cannot attend in person have the option to follow the live stream or watch the video recording later.
