Calau shows itself in a new light: Witzerundweg is conquering social media!

The city of Calau, a hidden gem in the enchanting Spreewald, is setting new trends in tourism advertising. Since its opening in 2011, the Calauer Witzerundweg has drawn numerous visitors to the city center. And now he's even becoming a star on social media! From today, July 10, 2025, a lovingly produced video clip will be published on the social media accounts of the Spreewald Tourism Association. Jan Hornhauer, who is committed to tourism in Calau, explained to us the background of this exciting video production. The city has been part of the tourism association since 2007 and in recent years has benefited from various promotions that have significantly increased interest in this region.

A team from the Lübben agency Yellow Moses filmed in Calau on July 1, 2023. The clip aims to present the city and the beautiful Spreewald region as attractive holiday destinations. Unlike the typical Spreewald, visitors here do not expect cucumber sales or boat trips, but rather a completely different view of the region's diversity. The central themes of this marketing strategy are the Witzerundweg and Calauer Schweiz, which is known as an excellent hiking area.

Discover the diversity of the region

There is much more to see and experience in Calau. The outdoor adventure pool tempts you with refreshing dips in summer, while the “Mobile World of the East” captivates vintage car enthusiasts. If you like something a little more exciting, you will find interesting insights into the world of birds of prey at the Adler- und Jagdfalkenhof Werchow.

Calau also has a lot to offer for those interested in culture. Climbing the church tower offers a wonderful view over the city and the surrounding Calau Switzerland. Guided tours can be easily booked via the Calau Tourist Information Office. The various museums in the city also offer exciting insights into history. In the local history museum in the old girls' school, visitors learn the stories from early settlement to the 19th century. The House of Local History commemorates Carl Anwandter, a former mayor who emigrated to Chile.

The Spreewald experience

The entire Spreewald region is known not only for its nature, but also for its deeply rooted Slavic culture, which was shaped by the Lower Sorbian people. The landscape itself is a true paradise with riparian forests, reed landscapes and villages on floating islands. When you're here, you shouldn't miss a traditional boat trip.

The popular excursion destinations in the Spreewald include the Bismarck Tower in Burg, which offers an impressive view of the surrounding area, as well as the port of Lübbenau, the center for boat rentals and guided tours. Another highlight is the Lehde Open Air Museum, which vividly depicts the way of life in the 19th century. If you want to take a piece of Spreewald history home with you, you should visit the cucumber museum in Lehde, which also offers tastings.

Calau and the Spreewald invite you to be discovered! In order to take part in these unique experiences, the journey is uncomplicated: you can reach the region in just one hour from both Berlin and Dresden. In any case, the Spreewald offers a variety of natural experiences all year round. Every year the region impresses with its own charm and delights visitors again and again.
