70 years of Lauchhammer parking railway: Celebration with new train drivers!
Lauchhammer, Deutschland - The parking railway in the Lauchhammer-West Schlosspark came on July 6, 2023 in the delights of its 70th anniversary. On the occasion of this round birthday, a big festival was organized that attracted numerous visitors. The history of the railway, which was opened on Mountain Centers in 1955 with the locomotives Luzi, Rosi and Amanda, is deeply interwoven with the region and makes it a popular destination for young and old. The tradition of the railway, which was temporarily closed in 1999 due to technical defects, was brought back to life by the traditional Launkohle Lauchhammer Association after recovering its business in 2003.
Mayor Mirko Buhr spoke during the anniversary celebration about the voluntary commitment of the club members, who are significantly involved in keeping the railway going. The takeover of four new train drivers who passed their exam on the festival: Janet Becker, Melanie Thomschke, Vivien Eichhorn and Nicole Guksch was particularly gratifying. This reinforcement will continue to revitalize the team of the park railway and secure the company. The exam was taken from Hartmuth Wirtz, who retired that day and thus initiated a new section in the history of the railway.
celebrations and events
The celebrations around the parking train were celebrated at the same time as the traditional mining day. On July 6, 2025, this event took place from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the preparations were already in full swing. The traditional club BraunkoL Lauchhammer e.V. had put together a varied program that offered everything you could only want: from live music to delicious dishes to child-friendly attractions such as bouncy castles and carousels. Special highlights of the day were the anniversary trips with the parking train, which were popular with both the little ones and the big ones.
To celebrate together, there were appearances from the duo Second Live and the orchestra of miners Plessa e.V., which created the mood. All generations got their money's worth at this mix of entertainment and family festival. The castle park, which served as an event location, offered the perfect framework for the celebrations with its idyllic environment.
