Exciting summer holidays: Museums in Elbe-Elster offer children’s adventures!

An exciting and diverse program awaits children in the Elbe-Elster region during the 2025 summer holidays. The Elbe-Elster museum association has come up with a lot of ideas to introduce young explorers aged 5 to 12 to history in an entertaining way. In four museums, namely in Bad Liebenwerda, Finsterwalde, Doberlug and Mühlberg, little visitors can go on a journey through time and experience a lot.[lr-online.de]

What's on the program? The museums offer interactive events with different focuses! Activities such as designing candy bags in the historic store or making hand puppets are on the list. To name just a few of the highlights:

  • Finsterwalde: Historischer Kaufmannsladen und Bonbontüten gestalten am 29. Juli, 10.30 Uhr, Eintritt 4 €.
  • Doberlug: Barocke Kostüme, Spiele und Basteln im Schloss am 30. Juli, 10.30 Uhr, Eintritt 8 €.
  • Bad Liebenwerda: Marionettenspaß und Handpuppen basteln am 1. August, 10.30 Uhr, Eintritt 4 €.
  • Mühlberg: Schatzsuche, Kostüme und Armbrustschießen am 6. August, 10.30 Uhr, Eintritt 4 €.

The program still continues! On August 12th there is the opportunity to immerse yourself in herbalism at Doberlug Castle, while Finsterwalde invites you to the “Big Laundry at Merchant Wittke’s” on August 13th. On August 14th there will be a treasure hunt in the Lubwartturm in Bad Liebenwerda. Admission is also cheap, and advance registration is required for all events.

Special programs in detail

Particularly noteworthy are the time trips that are organized for children aged 6 to 12. On July 26th, participants in the Doberlug Castle Museum will learn how people celebrated and cooked 300 years ago. The children can dress up in baroque costumes and make fancy masks. Admission is 6 euros, reduced price 3 euros.[niederlausitz-aktuell.de]

Another highlight is the program in Finsterwalde, where the children travel back in time with a washboard on July 19th and August 2nd. They learn to wash laundry by hand, make their own detergent and can even create their own herbal soap.

In the Mühlberger Museum on August 7th the motto is: “Treasure hunt in the year 1547”. Tests of skill are required here, and participants have the opportunity to receive a letter of nobility after finding the treasure chest. For just 4 euros, little treasure hunters can immerse themselves in adventure here.

Combination of leisure and education

What makes things even more interesting: The programs can be wonderfully combined with leisure activities such as cycling tours or visits to the lakes and outdoor pools in the area. A perfect offer for families looking for a healthy mix of fun and education on vacation![wittelsbacherland.de]

However, for all of these exciting experiences, advance registration is necessary to secure a place. So don't waste time, register early. The museums have really put together a good hand for an entertaining and educational summer holiday program!
