The 35th Film Festival will take place in Cottbus from November 4th to 9th, 2025, an event that attracts film enthusiasts from near and far. This year's focus: Estonia. A total of 138 films from 41 countries will be shown, although the organization has reduced the number of screenings to reduce the burden on the jury. The main competition includes ten feature films, while the “Short Film” and “U 18 Youth Film” sections represent the diverse creative expression of the Eastern European film scene [ daily news ] .
In this edition of the festival there is an exciting section entitled "Close-Up: Estonia. Between History and Present", which presents different film genres from Estonia. The new series “Don’t Call Me Vintage” is also being launched, showing four films from the 1980s from a female perspective. The “Cottbus Masters” section offers a platform for new works by well-known directors from Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, while the brand new “Midnight Madness” section serves the audience horror and fantasy film highlights [ Time ] .
A colorful program for young and old
The festival program has been well thought out: For little cinema fans there is the “Kids in the Cinema” section, which presents four films for children up to the age of twelve that deal with themes such as friendship and adventure. The opening film will be the Slovak-Czech production “Duchoň”, and the Lubinas awards ceremony will take place on Saturday evening at the Piccolo Children’s and Youth Theater. Regular tickets cost 7.50 euros per film, making the festival an attractive affair for all cinema lovers. This year the venues are the State Theater, the Weltspiegel film theater, the Kammerbühne, the Gladhouse youth center and the Obenkino. A graduation with a party
On November 8th, after an exciting festival, the FFC closing party with UNI FETE will take place at Gladhouse. From 10 p.m., guests can look forward to a colorful music program that includes hip-hop, R'n'B, pop, Latino, Afro, the 90s and 2000s as well as techno. Five DJs and two floors guarantee a fantastic celebration that brings students and Cottbus residents together.
