Cottbus dances in summer: Waltz Night transforms the Altmarkt into a festival site!
There are exciting days ahead in Cottbus! On July 5th and 6th, 2025, the Altmarkt will be transformed into the largest dance floor in the city, while the traditional “Cottbus Waltz Night” will be celebrated. This annual event promises to be a celebration for all dance enthusiasts and music lovers like the Lausitzer Rundschau reported.
On the first evening, the open waltz rehearsal starts at 2 p.m., followed by a free dance course led by the renowned Fritsche Dance School at 6:30 p.m. From 9 p.m., the philharmonic orchestra and talented soloists such as Anne Martha Schuitemaker and Rahel Brede will provide the best entertainment. Another special note for participants: Dressing in summery white is not only a nice custom, but also makes the event visually particularly festive.
A whole weekend full of music and dancing
Sunday, July 6th, has the motto “Our Stage Cottbus”. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors can look forward to a colorful program with music and hands-on activities from the region. The event begins with an ecumenical open-air service at 10 a.m., ideal for anyone who wants to start the day in contemplation.
The gastronomic aspect is also interesting: numerous restaurants and cafés around the Altmarkt offer refreshments. Requests for reservations are already in full swing and some restaurants are even fully booked. Here is an overview of the bars that offer seat reservations:
- Brau & Bistro Mylix
- Sakana
- Taparia am Altmarkt
- Olympia
- Mosquito
- Coffeelatte
- Amarone
- Piato
- Dalivia
- Café Lucie
The event, which is under the patronage of Mayor Tobias Schick, is also barrier-free, although access to the dance floor is somewhat restricted. A contact point for further information is the Calendar of events for the city of Cottbus.
The best part? Admission is free on both days, so everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Waltz Night. This is where the Cottbus community meets to dance and celebrate life in a convivial atmosphere. Mark the date, dance along and let the music carry you away!
