Attack on trans women in Neukölln: Police hold suspects!

Adlershof, Deutschland - A shocking incident shook Berlin-Neukölln when two trans women became victims of a brutal attack at the end of May. The incident occurred at Hermannplatz underground station, where the women were spit on and poured over by a man. There was a chase to the Reuterstrasse, at the end of which the women were attacked by the attacker and a companion. One of the women suffered serious head injuries that made treatment in the hospital necessary while the other was cared for on site. The police have now identified four suspects between the ages of 18 and 21 and conduct extensive searches in several apartments in Berlin and Brandenburg, as [RBB24] (https://www.rbbb24.de/panorama/beitrag/2025/07/transfeinstschmatratratras- Neukoelln-schafungs-tat-tml).

The motif behind this violent assault is classified as hostile to trans, a problem that has become more important in the capital, especially since 2014. A current monitoring report, published by the Senate Department for Justice, shows a worrying increase in police-registered LSBTIQ*hostile crimes in Berlin. In 2021 alone, 456 such acts were recorded, with insults that made up 48.5 % of cases, followed by assault. These developments were made by Senator Dr. Lena Kreck emphasized that emphasizes the need to raise public awareness of this problem and to promote the notification of incidents, as it means in a press release from [berlin.de] (https://www.berlin.de/sen/justv/presse/pressemage departments/2022/Pressemage division.

a worrying phenomenon

The circumstances around these acts of violence are by no means isolated. According to the lesbian and gay association Germany (LSVD), hate crime is one of the most massive forms of expression of queer hostility. LSBTIQ*people are often at risk in public spaces, and visible identities can incorporate violent offenders to become active in advance of very different offenses. It is alarming to know that number of unreported cases are estimated for 80 to 90 percent for non -reported offenses, since many affected people out of shame or fear from the police do not file a complaint. This problem was discussed in a comprehensive report, which also deals with health consequences such as fear and depression that often occur after attacks. 38 % of those affected report psychological problems according to such experiences, according to lsvd.de.

The current incident in Neukölln is therefore a threatening reality that LSBTIQ*people unfortunately often meet in Germany. The police are now using special investigative techniques such as so -called Super Recognizers to support such crimes. The increased efforts to act against this form of violence are overdue and must be continuously supported to ensure the freedom and security of all people in society.
