Help Savage! Animal shelter calls for donations for sick Kangal mix

A male dog named Savage is waiting for help at the Fürstenwalde animal shelter. The seven-year-old Kangal mix has several health issues, including tumors and osteoarthritis, which lead to his need for daily pain relief. Shelter staff are visibly concerned about his condition, especially after a computed tomography (CT) scan revealed that a tumor was growing on his sciatic nerve and was pressing on the nerve. Without the necessary medical treatment, his condition could deteriorate further. “Savage urgently needs support,” explains Maureen Pichowsky, an employee at the animal shelter, adding that he is lame on the right back and has pain when walking.

The shelter is hoping for generous donations to cover the costs of the CT scan and treatment. Donations can be transferred to the following account: IBAN DE97 1705 5050 1000 3686 68, BIC WELADEDILOS, where name and location are also required. A donation receipt will be issued upon request. “We want to try everything to do the best for our Savage,” says Christine Matzke, the animal shelter manager. “We hope the tumor is benign and slow-growing.”

Concerns about tumors in dogs

Tumors in dogs are a serious issue that often causes great concern, but also require understanding and knowledge. In general, there are two main categories of tumors: the malignant ones, which can quickly become a serious health threat, and the benign ones, which are usually less aggressive. Nevertheless, benign tumors should also be taken seriously because they can also be treated to ensure the animal's well-being. The most common malignant tumors include osteosarcomas, hemangiosarcomas and lymphomas, while benign tumors such as lipomas or papillomas can occur. Regular medical examinations are therefore essential for dog owners in order to recognize changes early and act accordingly, as the Lucky Pets platform also reports.

Owners should be alert for symptoms such as unexplained lumps, weight loss, or changes in eating behavior, as these signs may indicate the presence of tumors. In particular, skin tumors, which are often visible, should be inspected regularly. Changes in the dog's abnormal behavior, such as withdrawal or excessive aggressiveness, can also be signs of various health problems. Pet Protect emphasized that it is important that pet owners take the health of their animals seriously and act quickly if necessary.

Savage's personal story

Savage himself has already been through a lot: over two years ago he was found in Bad Saarow and taken to the animal shelter. His beige fur and loyal look appeal to many, but unfortunately he has not found a new family to date. Now it's up to the goodwill of the public to help him. Every cent counts to provide him with the urgently needed medical care so that he might still have one or two chances for a healthy and happy life.

The shelter's staff and volunteers keep their fingers crossed for Savage and hope for positive news soon. Under the current circumstances, it is important not to waste any time and to advocate for the health of our four-legged friends.
