Who cleans up? Clothing after container fire causes trouble in Templin!

It's amazing how chaos can suddenly arise in a quiet town like Templin. A few weeks ago, more precisely on December 7th, the fire department was called to a fire in a used clothing container that was blazing at the Norma discount store on Lychener Straße. After the incident, Jobst Reifenstein, an attentive local resident, looks in amazement at the remains of the burning clothing, which are now scattered around the area. Who cares about such an unsightly sight? Many residents have asked themselves this question. Horst Kerlikofsky from Templin also has similar concerns and wonders who is responsible for the clean-up work.

Rico Bechly, the department head for order and security, has now taken a stand. He confirmed the poor condition of the site and explained that the city cannot take care of removing the burn marks - that is the responsibility of the property owner. Bartels-Langness Handelsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG, which acquired the area last year, plans to build a new Famila food market here. Press spokeswoman Solveig Hannemann promised to address the issue as soon as she was approached by the editorial team. She informed that a company will be hired to dispose of the remains of the clothing.

Series of fires – a worrying phenomenon

Unfortunately, the case in Templin is not an isolated case. On December 14th, another used clothing container in Bräunlingen was set on fire, causing total damage of around 800 euros. The head of the waste management office, Martin Fetscher, expressed his incomprehension about such wanton acts. Container arson not only poses a threat to people and the environment, it also damages the charitable work behind these fundraising campaigns. The police have started an investigation and are asking the public for help. Suspicious observations can be reported directly to the Office for Waste Management.

A similar incident happened on October 11th at the Kulturbahnhof, where three young people were observed near a burning old clothing container. Here, 15 firefighters were called upon to fight the fire quickly. Miraculously, a bicycle that was parked by a child at the container was saved from the flames. A big thank you to the emergency services came from the child, who was happy to get his vehicle back.

Community remains required

Amid all these incidents, the question remains: What can we as a community do to prevent such arsons? It is important to be vigilant and, if in doubt, inform the police or local authorities. We can all help keep our environment safe and clean. Let's not let such incidents discourage us, but rather let's work together to treat our public spaces with respect.
