Hot boxes in the soap box race: Templin celebrates with enthusiasm!
On June 23, 2025, Mühlenstrasse in Templin became the scene of exciting races for an hour when an exciting soap box race took place as part of the City Wall Festival. Twelve brave participants registered their self-built vehicles to demonstrate their creativity and driving skills. The Klockow Volunteer Fire Department Association V. contributed five colorful soapboxes, following in the footsteps of the fire department, which has been taking part in this colorful event since the festival began. Michel Preschel, a representative of the association, was particularly proud to present a new vehicle equipped with solar elements, developed in collaboration with the Prenzlau public utility company.
The idea for the soapbox race was initiated by the youth fire brigade and received active support from sponsors who contributed to the implementation of the event. Among the participants was Jolina from the Templin leisure facility “Die Insel”, who thrilled the audience with her original “Inselflitzer”, a model made by children in the wood workshop with great attention to detail. It was particularly exciting for ten-year-old Anni, who celebrated her debut on the soapbox of the Templin Tourism Association.
Fun for everyone
The jury had the challenging task of evaluating the various vehicles based on creativity, route performance and the meters covered. Despite the summer heat, the colorful soapboxes attracted crowds of spectators who loudly cheered the participants on. The event not only promoted a sense of community, but also offered lots of fun for young and old. The Soapbox Race is part of a tradition that has been strengthened and developed over the years. There will also be a new edition in 2025, as the Schönecker Soapbox Race announced.
As with the previous races, a new qualifying mode and a focus on creative ideas have been announced for the upcoming event. It is also expected that improved financial conditions will make the range of food and drinks even more attractive.
Conditions of participation and registration
In order to take part in the soap box race, children and parents must adhere to a few conditions. Vehicles must have a working steering wheel and brakes, and a safety helmet is required. Anyone who builds a soapbox by the registration deadline can start either individually or as a team, for example father-son or mother-daughter. The next race promises a full program of fun for participants and spectators and offers prizes for the best creations, as templin.de highlights.
It remains exciting to see what new, exciting ideas the creative minds in Templin will develop between now and the next soapbox race. Another highlight of the city and one more reason to head to Mühlenstrasse next year.
