Peace flag hoisted in Templin: donations collected for children's aid!

A blue flag with a dove of peace flew on the Templin market square on January 16th - a sign of hope and reconciliation. Evelyn Krüger, a committed Templin woman, used her voice to spread the message of peace. She turned to the UBW faction in the Templin city council and quickly received support for her desire to raise the flag. The city council approved the application and even covered the cost of the flag, although Evelyn Krüger had already collected donations to realize the project. The money collected is earmarked for a good cause and will now be available to the child, youth and family welfare organization Mensch (s)kinder gGmbH, which is active in Templin.

Mayor Christian Hartphiel (SPD) was present at the ceremony and was also pleased about this peaceful initiative. At the event, Evelyn Krüger recalled Templin's dark history, especially the air raid on March 6, 1944, in which 215 people lost their lives. This memory was taken up by Pastor Ralf Schwieger, who gave an impressive speech. He emphasized that peace begins on a small scale and can take root in cities like Templin. The airstrike is a reminder to work for peace and to strengthen the community through joint efforts.

Fundraising campaign for a good cause

As part of the event, Evelyn Krüger handed over an impressive 300 euros to the gGmbH, accompanied by a further 250 euros that the UBW faction added. Ute Völkel and Benjamin Köhler from gGmbH accepted the donations and thanked them warmly for the support. The gGmbH itself looks after two residential groups in Templin that offer children and young people a home. Not only material resources are needed here, but also an open ear and a big heart.

Memories of the past

The air raid on Templin in 1944 is still an important part of the city's history today. According to reports, the 351st Bomb Group's objective that day was to hit an important factory in Erkner, but the PFF equipment proved faulty and the attack was directed against Templin. During this mission, the German Luftwaffe's air defense could not be encountered at the target itself, but only on the way there, near the attacked city. Fortunately, all aircraft used returned to base without loss, but the cost to the city and its residents was high.

The flag raising event is therefore not only a sign of peace, but also an important step in remembering and reminding the people of Templin that peace must be actively lived and promoted. It is up to all of us to set an example for hope and reconciliation together. The commitment of Evelyn Krüger, who made a difference in her city, is an inspiring example of what can be achieved with determination and community spirit. Together we can make a difference and every contribution counts. Let us open our hearts and hold up the flag of peace that was hoisted in Templin!
