City of Prenzlau plans great heat transition: Information event for citizens!

On Tuesday, June 17th, the city of Prenzlau invites you to an information event on municipal heat planning. The event begins at 5 p.m. in the cabaret hall of the Dominican monastery and is aimed specifically at homeowners from the districts and to the citizens of the core city, which are not connected to the district heating supply. According to Nordkurier , Stadtwerke Prenzlau are intensively concerned with developing a transformation plan to increase the share of renewable energies in heat and energy supply. They are supported by two commissioned planning offices and by acquired funding.

In the past few months, two public events have already taken place to inform the citizens about the planned expansion of district heating supply based on geothermal energy. These measures are part of a larger framework that is legally requested by the federal government. From January 1, 2024, all federal states in Germany will have to create heat plans that are intended to advance the transition to renewable energies, such as

The way to sustainable heat supply

The heat supply in Germany contributes to over 50% of the final energy consumption and is responsible for a significant part of CO2 emissions, such as bbsr . About 80% of this heat issue are currently covered by fossil fuels. In order to achieve the climate goals, the switch to renewable energies is of essential importance: by 2045, Germany is aiming for a climate -neutral heat supply. Various deadlines are set within which the municipalities have to develop their heat plans - by June 30, 2028 for smaller cities.

Another goal of the new heat planning law is that from March 1, 2025, new heating networks will receive at least 65% of their net heat generation from renewable energies or waste heat. Existing networks are to be switched to renewable energies or waste heat by 2040 by 2030 and 80% by 2040. These requirements are crucial to ensure social participation in heat planning and to make long -term decisions.

importance of municipal heat planning

In Germany, 42% of municipalities are already actively working on their heat planning. An important aspect is the close cooperation between the federal, state and municipalities in order to achieve effective implementation. The Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection have launched a stakeholder dialogue to support municipal heat planning. In this way, practical solutions can be developed. The active participation of citizens in heat planning could also be important in Prenzlau in order to raise awareness of climate protection and their own responsibility.

The upcoming information event in Prenzlau is therefore not only an opportunity to find out about local developments, but also to actively call on this important social challenge. Because only together can the path to climate -neutral heat supply be designed successfully.
