Prenzlau is looking for committed members for the advisory board for people with disabilities!

Something new is happening in the city of Prenzlau: The advisory board for people with disabilities is looking for committed members to represent the interests of this important population group. All positions on the advisory board are currently vacant as the previous members have left for personal and health reasons. Mayor Hendrik Sommer (independent) encourages all interested citizens to apply so that the committee's important work can be continued. An interesting detail: There is no disability required for membership in the advisory board.

The advisory board for people with disabilities has the main task of representing the interests and concerns of people with disabilities at the city council, the city administration and various parties and associations. In order to become active, the advisory board needs at least three members who are appointed by the city council. Both residents of Prenzlau and people from outside are welcome, provided they have a regular connection to the city.

What awaits potential members?

Those interested should know that membership in the advisory board is voluntary and without compensation. Anyone who would like to apply should submit a written application with a brief explanation to the city of Prenzlau by August 18, 2025. The address is: Office for Education, Sport and Social Affairs, Am Steintor 4, 17291 Prenzlau. Please note that people who are already members of the city council or other city advisory boards are excluded from applying.

Advisory boards for people with disabilities are not uncommon; They are excellently established in many municipalities and are considered one of the most effective forms of local political interest representation. As the LAG Selbsthilfe NRW reports, such committees play a central role in sensitizing politics and society to the needs of people with disabilities. Public relations work to create a barrier-free environment is very important here.

An example of co-determination

An example from Bad Oeynhausen shows how advisory boards can be structured: There, the advisory board has between seven and eleven voting members, who can include people with disabilities as well as their relatives and carers. Participating in such a committee is an excellent way to break down barriers and ensure inclusion. These advisory boards collect suggestions and experiences from people with disabilities; The voice of those affected has the highest priority here.

The call for participation in Prenzlau is an opportunity to break down the barriers in the city and actively work towards a barrier-free future. So if you have a good knack for the needs of the disadvantaged, then get in touch and get involved!
