Heartfelt fundraising campaign: Over 20,000 euros for children with cancer!

This time, the shopping week at the REWE markets in Uckermark and Barnim was entirely dedicated to a good cause. During the “KW 37” campaign week, which took place recently, customers were able to donate at the cash registers to the association “Uckermark against Leukemia – Together against Cancer” (UgL e.V.). But it's not just the amount that's impressive, but also the purpose of these donations. Part of the money goes to a creative project at the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, which enables art therapy for children with cancer. This form of therapy is intended to help you better cope with the stress of the treatments - art helps reduce stress and promotes hope. A public exhibition of the resulting works of art is also planned to raise awareness of the concerns of those affected. Another project includes the design of a “lounge corner” in the pediatric oncology unit, which is intended to create an inviting space for young people. This is where the creativity of UgL e.V. will come into play, which wants to design both the walls and the furniture accordingly.

A successful year for the club

The UgL e.V. association has been committed to supporting children and adults with cancer as well as their families in Brandenburg and Berlin since 2009. Ines Baumgarten founded the association after her own concerns. The support goes beyond financial aid; The association fulfills the wishes of those affected, be it an excursion or personal gifts. REWE Nordost has been a partner of the association for two years and has contributed a lot to the donations in the past through numerous campaigns such as cake bazaars, raffles and the sale of handmade worry worms. By the way, in 2024 over 22,000 euros were collected, which broke the previous record. A check was presented to Ines Baumgarten at the REWE store in Angermünde, and the commitment of store manager Doreen Rösler was also an important part of the success. Overall, all of these fundraising campaigns show that the customers of REWE stores have a big heart for the people in their area.

Outlook on future projects

The association is now planning to purchase a second vehicle to transport patients and their relatives. Further typing campaigns are also planned in clinics, hospices as well as at sporting events and in schools. These campaigns offer a great opportunity to reach and help even more people.
