After 40 years: Farewell to Aunt Elke” – An emotional celebration in Carmzow!
An emotional day in the “Kastanienstübchen” village daycare center in Carmzow: Elke Reichow has worked with heart and passion in childcare for over 40 years, and on June 13, 2025 she said goodbye to her little protégés and the daycare family in retirement. The celebration was a surprise that brought together many parents and former kindergarten children to honor the popular “Aunt Elke” and thank her for her tireless work. With gifts in hand that were brought by parents and former children, everyone celebrated their farewell together. The little daycare children sang a touching song and presented Elke with a lovingly designed garden bench on which the children's handprints are immortalized. Such gifts are not only souvenirs, but also an expression of gratitude for the many years that Elke Reichow spent looking after children from the age of one until they started school.
A long journey
Elke Reichow has been working in childcare since 1981, initially in the GDR. She went through various stages, played a central role as daycare center manager and took over management of the daycare center in 2010. Their commitment, dedication and ability to care for children in mixed-age groups have made them an institution. Although there were also difficult times, especially after the fall of the Wall, she remained loyal to the daycare center and never wanted to work anywhere else. Former kindergarten children still recognize her as “Aunt Elke” to this day.
Mayor Jörn Muranko, who was in the daycare himself as a child, initiated the successor to Vanessa Glöde, who would like to continue Elke's tradition as the new daycare director. This continuity is of great importance for many in the community, known from Pro Kita, because the transition to school is an important step for the children. Farewell parties like this help to create emotional farewells and create beautiful memories.
Outlook for the future
New adventures are now coming up for Elke Reichow: spending time with her family and grandchildren, traveling and gardening are the plans that she now wants to increasingly implement. As a farewell, she received many flowers and bushes, which will continue to bloom in the daycare as a sign of appreciation and affection.
The daycare center is confident that Elke Reichow will remain in their hearts as she now retires. It won't be easy to fill her shoes, but the memories and legacy she leaves behind will continue to live on in the Kastanienstübchen village daycare center.
A big farewell like this symbolizes not only the end of a chapter, but also the beginning of new possibilities - for the children who leave daycare and for the educators who continue their journey.
