Moped hits bicycle: Two women injured in accident in Angermünde

There was a traffic accident in Angermünde around 7:45 a.m. this morning, involving a 15-year-old girl and a 66-year-old cyclist. According to reports from the Northern Courier The incident occurred on Heinrichstrasse when the girl tried to overtake the cyclist with her Simson. There was lateral contact between the moped and the bicycle, which caused both riders to fall. Fortunately, they only suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. The material damage is estimated at around 500 euros.

Accidents like this highlight the traffic situation in Brandenburg. The police have started an investigation to clarify the exact nature of the accident, and so far the officers have assumed there was a misunderstanding between the two road users. In this context, the question arises as to how such accidents can be avoided in the future.

Road safety in focus

Today's incident is not an isolated incident. Loud Brandenburg police report There was already a similar accident at the Kirchweg/Parsteiner Weg intersection on March 25, 2024. An Audi and a VW Caddy collided, resulting in the VW falling into a fire pond. Here, too, both drivers suffered minor injuries and had to be treated. Such incidents highlight the challenges that exist in road traffic, particularly at intersections where there are often tight spaces between vehicles.

It is also interesting to see that in the EU the number of road deaths was reduced by 36 percent between 2010 and 2020. In 2019 there were 22,800 traffic deaths, and in 2020 there were already 4,000 fewer EU report shows. However, the accident rate remains worrying, particularly for younger drivers and older people. 28 percent of traffic fatalities in 2018 were over 65 years old, which shows that this group of people is particularly at risk.

It is therefore important that both young and older road users are made aware of the dangers of road traffic. The younger generation needs to learn to take responsibility, while older people should offer support and training to navigate traffic safely. Situations like those in Angermünde should be a wake-up call for everyone who ventures onto the streets.
