Topping-out ceremony in Perleberg: New fire station sets an example for safety!
An important milestone was celebrated in Perleberg, the beautiful district of Prignitz in Brandenburg. The largest new building project in the city's history has taken an important step forward with the topping-out ceremony for the new fire station on Quitzower Straße. The shell is now complete and the work is moving within the specified time and budget, as Mayor Axel Schmidt proudly announced. “The project is of crucial importance for our fire department and the infrastructure,” said Schmidt, who enthusiastically praised the work done. District Administrator Christian Müller also highlighted the excellent cooperation between everyone involved.
A look at the background shows that the old guard station on Feldstrasse no longer met current security standards. Fire engines often had to be positioned in front of the hall because the gates were simply too low. “This won’t work in the long term,” agreed the 54 active firefighters who have been calling for a new building for some time. A visit from the accident insurance fund in 2020 confirmed the urgency of this measure, and so the project was launched. The costs are estimated at around 12 million euros, although the state of Brandenburg has already promised generous funding of 1 million euros.
Architectural highlight
The new fire station will be a highlight not only functionally but also architecturally. City fire brigade leader Maik Müller described the construction project as a “symbol of safety” and a clear commitment to the valuable work of the fire department. The new station will offer ten parking spaces for emergency vehicles, including training areas and even a training tower. “This will equip us considerably better,” Müller stated in the discussions at the topping-out ceremony.
The old station will not simply be abandoned, but will be converted into a fire department technical center for the district. The location remains true to the fire and disaster control task, which will also benefit the emergency services in the future. Interested guests were able to get an insight into the new building at the topping-out ceremony, led by Maik Müller and local fire chief David Roß.
A strong team at the front
The Perleberg fire department is not only responsible for the city itself, but also goes out to work in surrounding areas. These tireless volunteers have already completed over 100 missions this year. The fire department also operates the region's only drone unit in Prignitz, which has become indispensable in operations and rescue operations.
The great interest and positive feedback expressed at the topping-out ceremony show that the citizens of Perleberg are behind this important project. “Something really important is happening here,” said one participant, summing up the meeting. With the new fire station, Perleberg is taking a decisive step into the future and ensuring an optimal security infrastructure.
