With the tractor to Barcelona: Maik Horn's adventure begins!
“Trecker-Maik” from Kränzlin, a small, friendly town near Neuruppin, has turned a lifelong dream into reality: With his self-built tractor, a ZT 323 with 210 hp, and a small but nice tour group, he sets off to drive over 2,000 kilometers to Barcelona. From there he takes the ferry directly to Mallorca, where he celebrates his 50th birthday at the beginning of July. The anticipation is great - but the journey also has its challenges.
The group, consisting of a tractor, a transporter, a mobile home and an IFA W50 truck, has now come significantly closer to the Spanish border. It's only about 100 kilometers to get there. “It's going well,” reports Maik, whose heart beats just as much for tractors as for his wife Daniela, who accompanies him on this adventure trip in a Wartburg 1.3. Unfortunately, it had to be handed over to the ADAC after a breakdown in Bad Mergentheim - an oil leak made it impossible to continue driving. Daniela has now switched her focus to the transporter, while the Wartburg is being taken to Dabergotz, where spare parts are available. Nevertheless, Maik remains optimistic and continues on his way to take the ferry to Mallorca on June 24th.
A lifelong dream comes true
Maik Horn, the trained beer brewer and truck driver, has had this dream firmly in his sights for 20 years. The trip has a deeper meaning for him because it combines his passion for technology with unforgettable moments. His wife Daniela is not only his companion, but also an important part of this adventure. With a tattoo of the VEB Traktorenwerk Schönebeck logo on his upper arm, Maik shows where his roots come from and what connection he has to tractors.
On the way to Madrid, the group plans to stay mostly without hotel accommodation in order to save money. Acquaintances, friends and local companies provide enormous support with money and material help. Working together not only makes the journey easier, but also a communal experience that brings people together.
The big birthday in Mallorca
Maik already has big plans for their return to Mallorca: the group will enjoy the island's impressive landscape on a picturesque tour through the villages of Valldemossa, Esporlas and Puigpunyent. The destination is Bodega Son Puig, where wine tasting and an excellent lunch await you. They will also enjoy a challenging mountain ride with curves that leads to Puig de Sant Salvador, from where they have incredible views of the island.
After all these experiences, the adventure should be crowned with a breathtaking sunset at the Ibiza hotel Iberostar Selection Es Trenc - where finger food and beautiful memories of this unique trip will be served. So Maik has a lot to celebrate and be thankful for as soon as he can spend his 50th birthday on July 4th in Mallorca with friends and his beloved Daniela.
