But why is cycling so important? Environmental Bundesamt.de has some exciting facts ready: According to estimates, up to 30 % of car trips could be relocated to bicycle traffic in many cities. This not only to relieve the environment, but also to promote health. Already daily 30 minutes of moderate movement, such as cycling, reduce the risk of civilization diseases, while it noticeably increases the quality of life.

Especially in metropolitan areas, cycling areas offer a real alternative to motorized means of locomotion. Over 40 % of the car journeys in major German cities are shorter than 5 kilometers - routes that can often be covered faster and more comfortably by bike. For municipalities, this not only means necessary infrastructure improvements, but also an opportunity for a contemporary traffic concept that includes pedestrians and cyclists equally.

The future of cycling

The [Stadtradeln.de] (https://www.stadtradeln.de/an registration) has developed into a popular platform to promote cycling in German cities. Municipalities can register and then have the opportunity to organize the movement on site. However, registration also brings with it a certain lead time until the most important details have been clarified and the municipality can finally get started. The exchange between the cities and their citizens is indispensable.

The need to improve the wheel infrastructure through suitable measures is still the focus. Well-planned bike paths, modern storage options and excellent service offers are crucial to motivate people to switch from the car to the bike. Because ultimately not only the cyclists benefit, but also the environment, air quality and urban quality of life.

on the next city cycling! Let us pedal together and ensure a better and more sustainable future!
