Stefano Micoli new coach of SC Potsdam after Kapris' departure!
There is a surprising change in the coaching bench at SC Potsdam. The club has announced that Stefano Micoli has been hired as the new head coach after his predecessor Vladimir Kapris left before starting his job. While Kapris was originally slated for the position, he decided to accept an offer from VakifBank Istanbul, where he will work as an assistant to Giovanni Guidetti. SC Potsdam managing director Eugen Benzel showed understanding for this decision and emphasized that such opportunities for coaches are rare, as rbb Online reports.
Stefano Micoli, who will now coach the 2022 VBL Supercup winner, brings a wealth of experience with him. He was previously on the coaching staff at Fenerbahçe Istanbul and has also worked at high-profile clubs in Italy, Turkey, Romania, Slovakia, Israel and Poland. Eugen Benzel highlights that Micoli has already been involved in numerous national titles and even won the Champions League in his career. His contract with SC Potsdam runs until 2027, with an option for another year, reports Maz.
A major upheaval is imminent
It will be an exciting challenge for Micoli, as SC Potsdam is facing significant squad upheaval. His task will be to form a new team and gain the trust of the club. Benzel sees Micoli as a top solution for this challenging phase, in which fresh capital is flowing into SC Potsdam Sport & Marketing GmbH through the new co-partner and private investor Manuel Hammer in order to support the club financially.
The change in coaching position is part of a larger realignment at SC Potsdam. Micoli was immediately attracted to the opportunity to coach a German team once the offer was on the table. The anticipation and the will to make a difference seem to be clearly noticeable at Micoli, as SC Potsdam reports.
