Severe weather warning in the Dahme-Spreewald: Severe thunderstorms are threatening!

Today, June 15, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) is urgently warning of strong thunderstorms in the Dahme-Spreewald district, Brandenburg. The official weather warning, valid from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m., calls for stormy conditions with speeds of up to 80 km/h. In addition, heavy rain of up to 25 liters per square meter per hour is to be expected. Hail cannot be ruled out either, which further increases the danger. The DWD has upgraded the warning level to orange, which indicates a moderate storm.

The expected lightning strikes are particularly dangerous and can pose an acute threat to life. Falling branches and flying objects can also pose a danger. Residents should also behave very carefully in traffic, as rapid flooding of streets and underpasses as well as aquaplaning can be expected. The DWD recommends that you avoid being outdoors during a thunderstorm and that you secure open objects accordingly. Tents and the like should be securely secured to avoid damage. If you are near water, you should avoid it.

Current weather conditions

The current weather data shows a temperature of 26°C and a humidity of 56%. The wind is blowing at 23 km/h. The UV index is still in a moderate range of 1.03. Hourly weather forecasts suggest that by 7pm the chance of precipitation will rise to 25%, while the temperature will drop slightly to 25°C. The situation is expected to become even more uncomfortable in the late evening hours, around 9 p.m., when the amount of precipitation also increases.

Regional risk of thunderstorms

This severe weather warning is part of a broader weather situation that affects all of Germany. A cold front originating in the Shetland Islands is moving across Germany, with the east and south of Germany in particular being affected by thunderstorms and heavy rain. People in Brandenburg are also asked to be vigilant, as the risk of severe weather remains until Monday night. The regional weather center has cautiously pointed out the possibility of heavy rain of over 40 liters per square meter within a very short period of time.

The severe weather forecasts are not only based on current developments, but are also based on the regular observations of experienced meteorologists. An overview map from the severe weather center shows that the entire Dahme-Spreewald area as well as other regions in Brandenburg are affected. Safety measures and closely observed weather phenomena are now crucial to prevent anything worse from happening. The population is called upon to regularly inform themselves about the current weather conditions and to take any necessary precautionary measures.
