City encourages cycling: CITY CYCLING starts soon in Wusterhausen!

CITY CYCLING is just around the corner in Königs Wusterhausen! From June 21st to July 11th, 2025, all citizens are invited to pedal and celebrate cycling together. Anyone who lives, works, goes to school or belongs to a club in Königs Wusterhausen can easily take part. The kilometers covered during this time are collected via the CITY CYCLING page or the app - whether on the way to work, on a weekend trip or on vacation. This is not only fun, but also actively contributes to promoting cycling in the region, as Nudafa reports.

On June 21st, CITY CYCLING will be ceremoniously opened with a cycle start in Lübben, which begins at 10:00 a.m. on the market square. The tour leads via Hartmannsdorf to Schlepzig and back - a total of around 30 kilometers on a flat route that is suitable for all age groups. All Königs Wusterhausen residents are invited to cycle along and count their kilometers for their own hometown.

Competition and prizes

As part of CITY CYCLING there will also be an exciting team competition. Participants can form into groups, be it with work colleagues, club mates or family. The most active cyclists and teams will be awarded great prizes after the summer holidays, including the three most active cyclists, the best school class, the most cycling-active students, the best senior citizen and the most active team or company. This not only provides motivation, but also a lot of team spirit!

An important aspect of CITY CYCLING in Königs Wusterhausen is participation in the NUDAFA project, which promotes cycling at an inter-municipal level. Supported by the Wildau University of Technology and the Technical University of Berlin, the project aims to research strategies to improve cycling in small and medium-sized communities. The partner municipalities, which also include Eichwalde, Zeuthen, Schulzendorf and Schönefeld, are working together on a comprehensive cycling network, as Nudafa highlights.

The big goal in sight

CITY CYCLING fits into Germany's broader strategy to become a cycling country. The National Cycling Plan 3.0 (NRVP 3.0), which is considered one of the most comprehensive in Europe, aims to create safe and attractive cycling infrastructure. The Federal Ministry of Transport promotes the construction of cycle paths and offers municipalities support to strengthen cycling and promote happy cyclists, as the VdI reports. The implementation of these strategies should make a significant contribution to ensuring that the bicycle becomes ubiquitous in both urban and rural areas by 2030.

Funding for the NUDAFA project will continue until December 2025, and municipalities hope to make great progress in improving the region's cycle path network. We are excited to see what the future holds and hope that many people from Königs Wusterhausen will take the opportunity to actively participate in CITY CYCLING!
