The anticipation in Eberswalde is increasing: Thalia is coming to town! The new Thalia branch will open in the Rathauspassage from spring 2026 and will offer a wide range of books, games, toys as well as current trend and decorative items on more than 200 square meters. Jo Claire Hahne-von Ploetz, Thalia's division manager, is enthusiastic about the new location, which is not only centrally located, but also ideally suits the company's requirements. Eberswalde is increasingly perceived as an attractive university location, which opens up additional perspectives for Thalia. The HAHN Retail Real Estate Report 2025/2026 shows that stationary retail in Germany is still willing to invest despite economic uncertainties. According to the survey, an impressive 61% of 71 expansion managers surveyed intend to increase the number of their branches by the end of 2025 - that's the highest level in seven years! A strong concept for the future
The new Thalia concept always comes at the right time. Areas such as food, health and beauty as well as general needs, hobbies and leisure show continued demand. Particular attention is also being paid to gastronomy, a sector that is currently flourishing. The strong growth in the overall economy is giving retailers self-confidence, while the textile trade is reacting somewhat more cautiously to the current situation. Here, 44% of companies are planning to reduce branches. Nevertheless, 83% of retailers are optimistic about the next five years and have big plans to further expand their stationary networks.
Thalia's project also comes at a time when retail properties are becoming increasingly popular. The Hines company is currently implementing the “ONE TWO ONE” project in hybrid timber construction, which replaces the former Esprit building. With a gross floor area of around 10,850 square meters, an exciting combination of retail and office space is being created here.
