Honors and business discussions at the reception in Bernau!
This year's business reception of the city of Bernau, which took place on June 12, 2025 in the New Town Hall, attracted around 130 entrepreneurs and guests, including Barnim's district administrator Daniel Kurth and numerous representatives of the city council. The evening was not only a platform for networking, but also a place of recognition for outstanding achievements in the region. The topics of the event revolved around Bernau's economic situation, the increasing number of commuters and the increased need for commercial space, it was reported Bernau Live.
Mayor André Stahl made it clear that the city acts as a reliable partner for companies and would like to invest more in the necessary infrastructure in order to attract more companies. “The goal is clear: We want to create jobs for the citizens of Bernau,” explained Stahl. He emphasized how important it is to keep the location attractive.
Honors and awards
Numerous honors were also given during the reception. Marcus Naundorf, who sets standards with his metal processing and precision parts GmbH, and Dr. Georg Fritz, who, as head of anesthesiology at the Immanuel Klinikum Bernau, made special contributions during the corona pandemic and carries out over 5,000 procedures every year. In addition, seven prize winners from the state competition “Jugend forscht” were honored: Milena Reißmann, Lisa Matthäus, Shahin Sultan, Timo Ernst, Julius Schneider, Lukas Nitsch and Oliver Zins, who together achieved three first places and one second place.
Another highlight was the presentation of the Georg Rollenhagen Prize by the Rotary Club of Bernau, which went to the Dosto youth club. A check for 1,000 euros rounded off the honor. The evening ended in a sociable part with a buffet and relaxed conversations on the roof terrace of the town hall, where those present could enjoy the view over Bernau.
Commuters and Economic Insights
A significant topic raised during the event was the increase in commuters in the area. Data from the Commuter Atlas shows that around 40% of employees subject to social security contributions in Germany commute. This also includes numerous people from Bern who work in nearby cities. The need for more commercial space in Bernau is further underlined by these developments. According to the Commuter Atlas, precise district-level information on outbound and inbound commuters as well as their socio-demographic characteristics is essential in order to understand and control economic development.
These figures illustrate how important comprehensive planning and investment in infrastructure is, not only to meet the needs of local companies, but also to secure and further increase the living standards of commuters.
Overall, the event highlights the positive development and challenges facing Bernau and shows how important a shared commitment is for the future of the region. The city therefore offers an exciting framework for economic growth and social responsibility.
