Drunk driving and break-ins: Police take stock of Görlitz!

There will be some notable incidents in the Görlitz region on June 12, 2025 that should not go unnoticed. In addition to traffic accidents and crimes, the numbers of alcohol and drug driving also remain alarmingly high. If you ask around, the voices are different: many are calling for stronger measures, while others do not want to restrict leisure activities.

A shocking example of drunk driving is provided by a 57-year-old woman from Reichenbach who drove into a ditch with a breath alcohol level of 2.14 per mille. The police have ordered a blood sample and show once again that drunk driving can have fatal consequences. But it wasn't just her, a 53-year-old from Görlitz was also caught driving with a blood alcohol level of 1.64 and his driver's license was confiscated. In Halbendorf, the police stopped a 49-year-old with a blood alcohol level of 0.68 - this is also about more than just a moment of shock.

Drug influence in traffic

The drug problem on the roads also remains a serious issue. In Löbau, a 46-year-old e-scooter driver who was under the influence of drugs was stopped. The police ordered a blood sample, and here too the penalties are drastic: fines of up to 1,500 euros and a driving ban of up to three months are possible, as Polizei-Beratungsdienst reports. For novice drivers, the probationary period is extended by two years.

For example, even a simple drug drive without any noticeable driving errors can cost a lot of money and limit mobility. It is a reality that should be made clear to many so that young, novice drivers in particular do not end up in these situations without thinking.

Burglary and vandalism

In the meantime, the law enforcement officers were also busy with property damage and break-ins. In Weißwasser, a 27-year-old damaged a sign and is now being held responsible for around 200 euros. The burglars were targeting an e-bike and a watch collection worth around 5,000 euros in Görlitz. Such incidents reflect poorly on the security situation in the region.

There were also several accidents involving wild animals: A 30-year-old collided with a deer near Rietschen, resulting in property damage of around 1,500 euros, while a 19-year-old collided with another deer near Boxberg, causing around 2,000 euros in damage.

Preventing the influence of drugs and alcohol on the road is essential to ensure the safety of all road users. The police will also continue to increase their controls to minimize such incidents.

And what about security overall? In Görlitz and the surrounding area, the police remain vigilant and carry out regular checks to maintain order on the streets and prevent break-ins. Because if everyone does their part to ensure safety and behaves responsibly, that would be a good step in the right direction.
