The 45-year-old driver was slightly injured in the impact and had to be treated on site, while the passengers and tram staff surprisingly remained uninjured. The material damage is estimated at around 25,000 euros, and the badly damaged Mitsubishi had to be towed away.
The exact cause of the accident is currently unclear; the police have started the investigation. Interestingly, there were already two similar accidents involving SRS trams in the region in the previous week, increasing concerns about road safety in the area.
