Legal violence in Märkisch-Oderland: alarming numbers and events!
The current situation of right-wing violence in the Märkisch-Oderland district is alarming. According to RBB24, the number of right-wing motivated incidents rose to 384 in 2024-83 more than in the previous year. The increase is primarily due to a reinforced propaganda, which is evident in the form of rights and neo -Nazi stickers and flyers with anti -democratic content. These worries not only arouse the population, but also the advice center for victims of right -wing violence, which calls on to report any form of smearings and swastikas.
The attacks on people are particularly worrying. Last year eight such attacks were registered, almost all of them sprang up racist motivations. Minors and politically dissolving are common targets of these attacks. Racism remains the main motive for the incidents, whereby people who are not perceived as not white or not German are exposed to a particularly high risk. Alternative young people, politicians of democratic parties and queer people have to expect threats.
Focus of the incidents
Most incidents are documented in the city of Strausberg and along the S-Bahn line 5 in Neuenhagen, Petershagen and Hoppegarten. Bad Freienwalde and Müncheberg were also identified as focal points of right -wing violence. The specific incidents include racist insults and sometimes violent attacks, such as the attack on a Syrian employee of a petrol station on February 18 and the threat to Katrin Göring-Eckardt, the then Bundestag Vice President, in April. This shows that the disruption of civil society events such as "Bad Freienwalde is colorful", in which several people were confronted with Hitler greetings and threatened gestures, increases more and more.
The threatening development not only intimidated civil society, but also comes into focus of the political agenda. At the end of March 2025, the AfD youth organization "Junge Alternative" is to be dissolved, which is classified by the constitutional protection as secure right-wing extremist, as nd -aktuell. Such group -related activities contribute to strengthening extremist currents and make it clear that social cohesion and democracy are more demanded than ever
research and recommendations for action
In order to counteract the spread of right-wing extremism, the Federal Government launched a cabinet committee to combat right-wing extremism and racism in 2020, and the [Federal Ministry of Research] (https://www.geistes-und-s-und-szial sciences-bmbf.de/de/forschung-becht-- und-rassism--2625.html) Promotes projects that deal with these topics. These research aims at developing recommendations for action to combat these problems and covering a wide range of spectrum, from racism in the judiciary to the effects of prohibition measures against right -wing extremists.
With network initiatives such as Wi-Rex and Winra, an attempt is made to bundle research and increase the visibility of the problems. Through successor and young groups, research gives new impulses to effectively counter the challenges of right-wing extremism and racism.
The situation in Märkisch-Oderland is therefore a sign that it is not only important to draw attention to these incidents, but that active action by politics and society is also required. In particular, strengthening civil society seems crucial to meet the challenges together and create a place in which diversity and tolerance form the basis.
