Full closure in Prenzlau: Important diversion for residents and buses!
In Prenzlau, the residents face changes: Stadtwerke Prenzlau GmbH have announced a longer full closure in Grabowstrasse. This lasts from July 28th to September 5 at the latest and affects not only road traffic, but also the bus traffic in the city. The aim of the construction measures is to develop other buildings with district heating, which is increasingly in focus in the coming years.
The affected area extends between the Ahornweg entrance and the entrance to Karl-Marx-Straße. During the construction period, the access to the residents remains guaranteed, even if there may be short -term restrictions in individual moments. The municipal utilities have already announced that the residents concerned will inform the affected residents about such restrictions in good time. The “Grabowstraße” bus stop is not served during the construction work, which primarily affects lines 447 (city line) and Plusbus line 403 (Prenzlau-Schwedt/Oder). Instead, replacement stops are available for the affected passengers on Baustraße (inland) and Schwedter Straße (out of town).
construction sites during construction work
In addition to the construction work in Grabowstrasse, Prenzlau also has to be calculated with challenges by other construction sites. In addition to the traffic situation, reference is made to Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße, which can only be used to a limited extent as an alternative route. There can be dangerous situations here because the meeting is problematic. In addition, there is a construction site for the construction of a hospice on the corner of Breitscheidstrasse/Karl-Marx-Straße that also influences traffic routing.
But the challenges of district heating expansion go beyond short -term traffic restrictions. A look at the current development of the district heating supply shows that new district heating lines are planned nationwide in order to make the care more sustainable. In other cities, such as in the districts of Linden-Nord and Limmer, new lines have been laid since May 2025, with the aim of supporting a sustainable energy transition and connecting further buildings to the district heating network. The planned construction measures are to be divided into several sections to organize and optimize the process enercity.de reports that ....
sustainability and challenges
In all the positive goals, however, the possible negative effects should not be lost sight of. The expansion of district heating can also have a significant impact on the municipal green. Various reports show that main roots of trees have already been damaged in other cities. This raises questions of how urban planning can deal with these challenges to protect the green areas in the cities. The expansion of district heating infrastructures is often not sufficiently considered in connection with the effects on the urban ecosystem. The renewal of lines carries risks that should be well thought out so as not to explain the demands on city green [stadtundgruen.de, dass…] (https://stadtundgruen.de/artikel/technikflgen-welche-feiten-hat-der-kuenftige-fernwaerme expansion-on-das-Kommunale-Gruen-19448).
The Stadtwerke Prenzlau therefore ask for understanding for the inconvenience during the construction work. It is important that the residents have the opportunity to react to the changes and, if necessary, adjust to alternative traffic routes. The district heating is a step in the right direction, but the municipal green must also be considered. The course of the next few weeks will show how successful these measures actually are.
